British Shell Collectors' Club Information

Lambis chigagra L 1758

Welcome to the British Shell Collectors Club web site. If you are a member of the Club we hope that you will contribute to this site by submitting articles, using the swap shop and in any other ways you wish. For non-members, the site provides an introduction to the fascinating world of shell collecting and wherever you are in the world you are we hope that you will think of joining the club.

The club was founded in 1972 and held its first exhibition in 1976. It aims to promote interest in all aspects of conchology and shell collecting and to stimulate an exchange of information and specimens. The Club strongly encourages the use of good environmental practices when collecting specimens. The range of activities that it covers is very wide, from the scientific study of living and fossil molluscs to shell art, shells on stamps and collections of shell buttons. Its twice yearly magazine Pallidula contains club news and articles written by members. Its meetings provide opportunities to display specimens to members and the general public. It is usually possible to find an expert on any shell group to help you name your latest finds.

Club membership is approximately 240.

Full minutes of any committee meetings are available on request to club members at the club meetings - they are not published here. Want to know more? Come and join us!

The website aims to encourage more frequent exchange of information than is possible with a biennial meeting and journal alone. We hope this site will expand to cater for our members needs in various ways.

Different Committee members are responsible for various sections of this website. While the basic material has, in most cases, been written by them and will be continuously updated the site will only thrive with input from our membership. We ask you to submit material such as comment, ideas and news under the headings below to the designated Committee member. All articles which authors wish to be considered for publication on the website should initially be submitted to the Editor of Pallidula. He will decide whether to publish the article in Pallidula or to forward it for consideration for publication on the website. The Editor will not consider any article for publication in Pallidula which has previously appeared on the website.

Although the committee members are responsible for the content of different areas of the website, they are not the contributors. This site is for all our members, to be written by you - please contribute on any topic relating to shells and shell collecting.
